Exact digital reconstruction for end-to-end digital use
The re-engineering solution for cutting tools
TD ReCAD makes re-engineering easy and your end products highly precise. The software easily converts STL data into 3D STEP models for further use. You can use the generated 3D STEP models directly in the leading FEM systems. This means you no longer have to create the models by hand and benefit from high-quality results in the shortest possible time.
The advantages at a glance
1. Reuse manufacturing data efficiently
TD ReCAD converts STL data from grinding software into precise STEP models – ideal for CAD, FEM, and chip formation simulation. STEP files not only deliver better results, but also significantly reduce simulation time.
2. Convert scanned tools into precise STEP models
Transform scan data into usable STEP models. With TD ReCAD, you can reconstruct real tool models from 3D scans for series approvals, traceability, or digital archiving – precise, traceable, and fully reproducible.
3. Accurate reconstruction of complex geometries
TD ReCAD reliably handles even demanding tool geometries such as variable chipflutes, freeform surfaces, or complex point geometries. Precise modeling provides a reliable basis for downstream processes such as CAD, quality assurance, or simulation.
4. Generate comparison data for quality assurance
With TD ReCAD, you can create precise STEP models from scan or machine data – providing a reliable basis for geometry comparisons, series approvals, and quality evaluations.
5. Directly reuse generated STEP models
The STEP files created with TD ReCAD are geometrically closed and ready for immediate use – for example in CAD, FEM, or simulation processes. This allows re-engineering models to be seamlessly integrated into your digital process chain.
6. Re-engineering designed for cutting tools
TD ReCAD is specifically tailored to mills, drills, reamers, and threading tools. The clearly structured workflow enables complete reconstructions in just 30 to 60 minutes.
Flexibly expandable
Thanks to numerous additionally available options, TD ReCAD can be flexibly and individually adapted to your requirements, making it an indispensable central hub of your digital manufacturing.

Option Variable Chipflutes
Model chipflutes with variable pitch and profilesEnables the reconstruction of tools with changing flute geometry – for example variable pitch, helix, or core diameter. Ideal for high-performance tools with demanding cutting edge geometries.

Option Form Tools
Model free outer contours and point geometriesEnables the targeted reconstruction of contour and form tools with individual outer shapes and face geometries. Ideal for special tools beyond classic standard geometries.

Option Threads
Precisely model thread surfaces and tapsCreate precise thread surfaces on mills and complete geometries of taps – including lead-in and runout areas. Ideal for manufacturers of threading tools.

Option Knuckle Type (Roughing Surfaces)
Model roughing teeth and chip breakersThis option enables the precise reconstruction of interrupted cutting edges – for example for roughing teeth or peripheral chip breakers. Ideal for tools with deliberately interrupted cutting edges.

Option ToolStudio Import
Import tool paths and grinding wheels from ToolStudioImports tool path data and grinding wheel geometries directly from Walter ToolStudio. Eliminates manual modeling and delivers precise surfaces – especially for complex flutes and gashing.

Option Tool Compare
Compare 3D models directlyToolCompare visualizes differences between models using color coding – for example between scan, simulation, or reference models. Ideal for approvals, quality control, or geometric analysis.
How it works
With ISBE TD ReCAD in a few steps to the 3D STEP model
1. From STL to 3D STEP model
With ISBE TD ReCAD you can transfer STL data easily into reusable 3D STEP models. Independently of whether the STL data is generated by measuring machines or by simulations.

2. Using STEP in FEM software
After having generated the 3D STEP models, you can use them with ISBE TD ReCAD directly in leading FEM software. In doing so, you do not lose time for complex remodeling with CAD constructions.
3. Perform comparisons
With the 3D STEP models you can quickly and easily perform comparisons between designed and simulated or already manufactured tool.

4. Transfer STL data from WALTER Toolstudio
With ISBE TD ReCAD you can easily convert STL data from WALTER Toolstudio Simulation into reusable 3D STEP models.

FAQ
TD ReCAD is a software solution for reverse engineering of cutting tools. It enables the reconstruction of real tools, based on scans, grinding simulations, or manufacturing data, into complete 3D models.
The software is designed for rotationally symmetric cutting tools, in particular mills, drills, reamers, and threading tools, including complex designs or special forms.
TD ReCAD is not a design software, but specialized in the digital reconstruction of existing tools. Instead of manual modeling, you convert real geometries, for example from scans or simulations, directly into usable 3D models and export them as a STEP file for further use.
You do not need classic CAD design experience. TD ReCAD is aimed at users with a technical background, for example in manufacturing, quality assurance, or application engineering. An understanding of the structure and manufacturing of cutting tools is helpful, since the model build-up follows the real manufacturing process step by step.
Typically 30 to 60 minutes, depending on geometry and data availability. TD ReCAD is significantly faster than conventional CAD systems. Modeling is often four to ten times faster than fully recreating the tool manually.
You can use STL data from scans, grinding simulations, measuring systems, or any other sources. Optionally, tool paths and grinding wheel geometries can also be imported from Walter ToolStudio, and the matching surfaces are then calculated automatically.
You get an exact, geometrically closed 3D model in STEP format. It can be used directly for FEM simulations, CAD processes, or geometry comparisons, for example for machining or chip forming simulations.
Yes. TD ReCAD allows the targeted creation and export of individual surfaces, independent of the solid model.
The generated STEP files can not only be imported into FEM systems, but also further processed in common 3D CAD programs, for example for drawing derivations, dimension analyses, or as a basis for new tool variants.
Increasingly, the models are also used for marketing purposes, for example for photorealistic renderings, animations, or technical documentation.
With the additional ToolCompare option, you can compare your reconstructed model with a reference model, for example from a grinding simulation or a scan. Deviations are visualized using color coding and evaluated geometrically.
Yes. The modeling logic of TD ReCAD is also designed for tools with very small diameters.
